A letter to self. (2018)

Dear Me,
By the way, when you start writing a letter to yourself, make sure none of your favorite tele shows are on. Like Friends or The Big Bang Theory. It isn't advisable.
Anyway, let's begin.
It's the end of 2018, December 31st and since you didn't write a single letter to yourself through the rest 364 days, doing it now may seem sentimental or even silly but then there is another thing about doing something for the first time - it becomes special! So, treat this letter as one of the specials done at edge of 2018.

2018. A year that saw many downs than ups, more pitfalls than regularity, more disappointments than achievements but does any of it make it less special? One would say, kind of but that's not how i would want you to think or even remember this year. i would want you to think of 2018 as the best year of your life. Why? Because the same pitfalls have been the mile stones on which you created the reality of Happiness. There was absolutely no other way y…

Day 6 - 'Vacation Mode On!' series

In the quest of 'Vacation Mode On!' series, next in line is Day Six. For Day 5th, click HERE.
Day 6
Weekend strolled away quite quickly. We did some activities, i attended two events back to back on Friday. Saturday went into some essential shopping. As a parent, i feel we must take kids to shopping. It assists in growing the virtue of patience and discipline in them. But only when shopping is a necessity.
When hubby left for office, i decided to snuggle in bed, with my kid. We talked for sometime. Somewhere, he asked quite an intelligent question -
Mumma! What do you and Papa talk that i am not supposed to hear?

My book review+interview featured in Baran Punj

Delighted to share that my first Hindi interview has been published in one of India's leading magazines - Baran Punj. In its December 2018 issue. Have a look:

Day 5 - 'Vacation Mode On!' series

It's Day 5 of our Vacation Mode On! series and i must admit, the day had been rather different, unexpected.
You can read Day 4 and from there you will be led on to previous three days.
Day 5
This morning my kid had his second and last day of workshop he had enrolled for yesterday. As he did his workshop, i tried to relax at home. These days with the amount of stress going on, i feel it's way easier for us to be stressed than be chilled out. Taking a chill pill isn't easy anymore.

It's not life until death.

Anorexia nervosa. An eating disorder. Problem in maintaining optimum body weight. May result in a distorted body shape.
Not a great way to start a blog post but if you wait, i promise, you will know the worth of journey from the beginning of this post to its end.
i once was watching one of Sadhguru's videos on YouTube with my family. Sadhrugu, as usual, was there to ease questions with his dynamic intellect. Somewhere in between, he said - It's silly when people ask What's the purpose of life. The purpose of life is, to live. It's as simple as that.

Day 4 - Vacation Mode On! series

It's Day 4 of our Vacation Mode On! series. If you're the first time reader to it, let me tell you briefly that in an endeavor to make my kid's this vacation extra-special, i am trying to do as many activities with him as possible so that he stays busy, and does not get bored. Have an elaborate idea of it in the post Day 1. Day 2 and Day 3 are there too.
On Day 3, however, you will find my latest guitar cover where i have introduced Dholak style as well. It's for the first time that i have mingled Dholak in any of my guitar covers.
Day 4
Vacations are not only about fun but they should also have some learning integrated.
This morning, i had enrolled my son into a 4 hour workshop. After breakfast, i went to drop him. He was unwilling though, because of LIVE match streaming but i urged him to go and attend. Good things need attention.
Back at home, i used that solid four hour slot in writing furiously. It's only Day 4 and my writing schedule is already going down th…

Day 3 - Vacation Mode On! series + Tere Jaisa Yaar Kahan Guitar Cover+Tutorial

First of all, Merry Christmas! Hope you are spending it nicely with your loved ones and not only you had your Santa but you received many wonderful opportunities to be someone else's too.
i finished writing Day 2 post quite late last night. It was almost 12:55 when i hit Publish. The way days are breezing away recently, i wonder if breathing wasn't an involuntary action, i might as well have forgotten to do it.
Anyway, it's Day 3 of our Vacation Mode On! series. Let me start sharing how i am trying to make my kid's this vacation special.
Click to read about Day 2 and Day 1.

Day 2 - Vacation Mode on! series

It's Day 2 of our Vacation mode on! series that we are doing. No idea what i am talking about? Read about Day 1 - Vacation mode on! to get the picture right.

Day 2
It's now the second day of my kid's vacation and we did something interesting today. Firstly, i made pancakes for breakfast. Remember how my kid and i talked about introducing new recipes for breakfast yesterday, in Day 1 post? Pancakes was one of them.

Day 1 - Vacation Mode On! series

What if life goes bokeh? Only you and your partner on this earth and nothing else? Interesting? Weird? Nay? Read my last post on When life goes bokeh... ---------------------------------- What is Vacation mode on! series
It's the beginning of Christmas and New Year holidays. My kid has started his from today and it will last for two good weeks.
Now being in Kuwait has its own disadvantages. In India, we were in an enclosed society where kids had their own group. i would often have to call up parents to locate my son. Those kids could get so busy and vanished. But here, it's not a community anymore. Hence, no kiddie group. My kid gets bored at home sometimes and it's painful for a mother to watch her kid getting anxious because of boredom.
So i have decided to make this vacation extra-fun! Together, we will do activities which we both can relish and enjoy. Starting from today, i will leave no stone unturned to make his this vacation exciting and super fun. Hence, vacation m…

When life goes bokeh...

Imagine this - next morning you get up and withdraw the curtains to have a look outside. It's empty. No one in sight. Your partner comes in and offers to go outside. You both do but only to witness there isn't anyone on the roads. You get into a restaurant to grab some breakfast but no one at the counter to take orders. You come out and enter a nearby shop. No one inside.
Stomach grumbles just as instincts kick in. You start to have a peek inside house windows, trespass gardens, scan malls and more shops, run to petrol pumps and parking slots...the story remains the same - no one any where except for their stuff intact. Now panic rushes in abundance and you and your partner are clueless looking around like maniacs. No catastrophe, no overturning of oceans, no freezing cold...absolutely nothing. It was just a normal night followed by a normal morning.
Suddenly, life has gone bokeh, with you two in focus and the meaningless rest into a blur.

Child Abuse Sessions in Indian Education School (IES Bhavans), Kuwait

Last Thursday, on December 13th, i gave away not one, not two but three sessions on Child Abuse and that too back to back! You must be surprised, why and yes, why?!
Well, child abuse is a subject about which each child must be aware of. Also, Bhavans is a huge school and they wanted me to do the presentation for more than one grade since a single hall could not accommodate hundreds of students. i agreed and hence, there was one session for Primary section (3rd and 4th) and two sessions for Secondary sections (5th and 6th, and then 7th).

Quality Club Meetings Seminar, AOU, Kuwait 2018

i gave away a Book Interactive Session last Friday in Maurya Kala Parisar, Kuwait in which i talked about my books with much vigor. Read about it along with cool pictures HERE.
Where i gave away a session on Friday, on the next day means on Saturday, i attended a session, or rather say a seminar. It was titled as 'Quality Club Meetings Seminar' organized in Arab Open University by Timber Talker Toastmasters. Just like the Friday event, this one too was a full day program but jammed pack with several presentations by DTMs and TMs (Distinguished TMs and Toast Masters) and a few other activities.

Bin Tere Sanam Guitar Cover

i am running sick since a few days. Throat infection and all but i managed to draw a cover. It was due since a week. The movie is Yaara Dildara.
i have tried something new this time. On each chord, i have played half plucking and half strumming. It's the combo and i quite liked playing it. The song is an oldie and i feel the combo matches well with it.
You can watch it on my FB Musician page: Guitar Gorgeous

Celebration with The Grinch (Toastmasters session Dec 4th 2018)

This last Tuesday we had quite a celebratory mood at our Timber Talker Toastmasters Int'l club. Still have no clue what it is? Read it HERE. You will love the way they work.
Theme was Christmas and well, if you are expecting Santa Claus to appear with his noisy Ho Ho Ho song, you can not be more wrong. In fact, we had quite the opposite as our host. It was The Grinch.
The Toastmaster (TM) donning the mood and get up was funny, witty and yes, pretty creative. Everyone loved her. Since there are bucket full of pictures to share, i have come out with the best way to share - as a movie.

i had taken up the role of Ah Counter in this session. An Ah Counter counts all the interjections and sounds that are unnecessary to the speeches done on the stage. For example, like, you know, and, so, well, ah, um, err, oh etc., hindrances in making a speech effective.
i joined TT last week so i was bit nervous but big thanks to my fellow TMs who helped me survive. i also received certificate for &…

The magic of stressful 30 minutes

The word brings you to cringe already, doesn't it?
Be it happiness or grief, success or failure or any other emotion, stress is something we can't seem to be without. It's an integral part of us, as much as eating food and drinking water.

Stress can be good and healthy, if taken into right amount but more often than not, we find things slipping out of control and right there, the healthy dosage shoots into overdose. Result? Insomnia, anxiety, panic attacks, or may be sleep disorders.

In all this scenario, one thing is consistent - Stress. Less or more, stress is going to be there. So how to handle it without allowing it to interfere with peace of mind?

i'll discuss what usually goes around but first, let me share a tip that i have learned or more accurately, read yesterday and this tip actually makes a lot sense than others.

Practice match w/ KNWCT

Did you read my last post where i have talked about becoming a Toastmaster? Toastmaster Int'l is an interesting organization set on a different and specific set of vision. Read about it HERE.
This Saturday, on November 1st, we had to go to Sulaibiya ground. Our kid's cricket academy had a practice match with Kuwait National Women Cricket Team (KNWCT). i was surprised to know that the country which is hardly enthusiastic about the sport has an all women team.  Anyway, felt good to know that.
It's winter season here and if you have been thinking to give Kuwait a visit, now is the perfect time. We reached a bit early on the ground. The evening was a bit chilly but we had come prepared. There i saw KNWCT's coach giving all the girls warm up sessions necessary prior to a match. My kid's coach introduced me to him since i wanted to talk. During the conversation, i asked the coach when and how these girls play, the age range etc. He said from age 16 to 40+ years of women…
