Forget and forgive

"i want to ask you one thing, pitaji. Given the fact that life is full of challenges, specially considering the present situation that's going on, how can you manage to stay practical and not get swayed away by the wrong doings of others'? How do you stay so calm and talk only what's needed and not hurl accusations like them?"

My father looked up at me from his dinner plate and started talking.

"If i have learnt anything in my life then it'd be to forget and forgive. It is very much required for the peace of mind. i'll give you an example of Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela was South Africa's first black president and was a highly influential leader. He too had fought for his country's freedom.

When he was in jail, the appointed jailer had tortured him in every possible way. Be it mentally or physically, Mandela was tortured on a high degree but when he became the president, he summoned the same jailer and honored him. When his friends asked him, he said, 'i want to live my life in peace. For this, i need to forgive this man. i want to create some good memories so that the tortured memories won't stay with me for lifetime.'".

My father was, of course, paraphrasing Mandela's reply. i was touched! How can a person forget the inhumane amount of torture and forgive the person who had called them upon him? Sensing my surprise, he continued.

"You can only imagine the kind of bad time Mandela must have endured as freedom fighter but since he wanted to live life peacefully, he had forgiven the torturer. This is the biggest lesson of life. Things that are disturbing and odd today will simmer only for some time. And after that, they will become normal once again. So it is utmost important to learn the habit of forgetting and forgiving what unfair things people have done to you."

Being with parents is a beautiful feeling. And when it comes with additional list of learning, the moments become priceless, you become better and your heart stays at peace.

i am still touched by Mandela's kind gesture and beautiful thought process. No wonder he is considered as one of the true legends around the world and that people loved him so much. i'll do my best to not to forget these special moments spent with my father. He too is a great thinker and believes in doing fair and good. At the end, after all, we have to face ourselves only, isn't it?

Why do we need occasions like Mother's Day?

Firstly, Happy Mother's Day to all the moms in this world. Today is a special day for mothers and after wishing my own, I feel great. Mummy did not know today is her day and she was simply surprised when I wished her. She wished me back and then we chatted for a little more while before we hung up.

But before calling her, something else had happened. I was calling her but she was busy somewhere for incessant 20 minutes talking to someone else. Finally I called my father and informed about it's Mother's Day today. He chuckled and wished me. Then he asked,

"Who has made days like Mother's day, Father's day etc.? Do we really need such occasions?"

I laughed. Comments similar to this often flow my way nonetheless I replied to him.

"No. Actually we really don't need such days but if dedicating one day especially to our loved ones, we can shower some extra pounds of love, affection, care and gifts, there is no harm in celebrating them. For the rest of th…

Happy Diwali!!!

Wish you all a very happy, prosperous and full of laughter diwali (I guess I am the first one to wish you all :) ).

It's 12.30 AM and I am awake doing some interesting chit chat with my beloved husband. He is such a great talker and an even better listener (later one goes in my favor of course ;) ). We are exchanging diwali wishes with our parents. I am really happy today as I'd be making a number of really delicious food items (you all are invited too), making two rangolis afterwards and then enjoying the evening with our friends along with firing crackers. I know I know crackers are unfriendly for our environment. Therefore, we all would be doing it in a limit :). My husband is such a great supporter. He loves doing chores with me which makes everything so special and quick of course. I find it sweet. I also enjoy his company pretty much. Yayyy!! We are going to squeeze the maximum joy out of our favorite festival....again.
And yes...as I had promised, I am sharing the two d…

How to deal with a nagging neighbour

If you have a nagging fighting-maniac neighbor next door then you can easily relate to my pain and if this neighbor happens to have a dog barking day in and day out, you can feel the loads of irritation coming my way any time and every time.

Neighbors...they are always imagined as a friendly next door people who not only share their space with you but also comes at rescue when you need them. Good neighbors become your another family out of your own. Having been blessed with a good friendly neighborhood is a bliss; something that we always wish for when we move somewhere.

But...our wish comes crashing when we encounter a troublesome recalcitrant people living next door. Before you realize what wrong you have done to them, they will come rushing only to drag you into a fight. The fight majorly consists of verbal accuses and high pitched voice insults. Whether you are innocent or merely a witness to someone else's fight, such neighbors always drag the rest of the word with them, inc…
